This electronic edition is a fork of Finnur Jónsson’s German publication of Gísla Saga Súrssonar; M. Niemeyer, 1903, for use as a reading text in SCAND 501, Readings in Old Icelandic Language and Literature at the University of Washington. The orthography and spelling follow the conventions of Finnur’s edition unless otherwise noted. The numeration of both the chapters and the skaldic poems follow the common numeration used by most modern editions and translations. The sentence numeration present in Finnur’s edition is preserved. The notes are translated into English from German and are generally preserved throughout. At this writing, all bibliographic references should be referred to the print edition. Many glossed words are hyperlinked to their respective entries at the online edition of An Icelandic-English Dictionary, by Richard Cleasby and Gudbrand Vigfusson, and maintained by Sean Crist.

Roadmap for the future
- Check the text to the manuscript and normalize the orthography to the conventions familiar to the students (particularly the mediopassive endings).
- Add additional glosses and notes. The frequency of glosses will be weighted to the beginning of the saga (the first ten chapters will be heavily glossed, the second ten chapters will be glossed less, etc.).
- Remove obsolete notes from Finnur’s edition, and update and correct the original glosses.
- Update the apparatus to include modern scholarship, and update the bibliography.
